A shopper asks for their data, or asks you to delete it

Shoppers can ask you for a copy of their data, or ask you to delete it. You send both requests through Shopify, not to Bountful. Shopify passes them on to us.

Delete a shopper’s data

  1. 1In your Shopify admin, go to Customers and find the shopper.
  2. 2Choose Erase personal data.

Deleting their customer profile isn’t the same: Bountful isn’t told. If the shopper isn’t one of your customers yet, add them as a customer with the same email first.

Shopify gives you 10 days to cancel the request. If the shopper ordered in the last six months, Shopify waits until six months after that order. Once it goes through, Bountful deletes what it holds on that shopper, such as their name, email, chats and requests. Totals on Analytics stay, with nothing that points to the shopper.

Send a shopper a copy of their data

  1. 1In your Shopify admin, go to Customers and find the shopper.
  2. 2Choose Request customer data.

We email you that we’ve got the request. When the file is ready, we email you a link to download it. You need to be signed in to your store to open the link. The email says until when it works.

The file holds what Bountful had on that shopper on the day of the request. Data protection laws usually give you one month to reply to the shopper.

The Privacy part of a shopper’s page in Shoppers → People explains this too.
